ASEAN Green Setting the Standard

The ASEAN Green Hotel Standard is one of the six ASEAN tourism standards that the 10 ASEAN member countries of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao, Malaysia, Myanmar, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam consider essential for helping the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) t be Quality Single Destination.

Angkor Palace Resort & Spa (The Palace) was recently awarded with ASEAN Green Hotel Standard Award (The Award), in recognition of The Palace’s commitment to responsible tourism, environmental friendliness, as well as other worthwhile corporation social responsibility.

The Palace is the first and only resort that is owned, designed and built by a Cambodian architect to have been branded an international 5-star resort under WORLDHOTELS Deluxe Collection. This preferred resort is basked in a sprawling 11-hectare resplendent tropical paradise, a perfect heaven for business and leisure that offers diverse recreational facilities – 16-bay driving range, 2 tennis courts, swimming pool, and vast landscape for leisure walk, a spa to relax and rejuvenate after an exhilaration tour of Angkor Wat.

The Award was granted to The Palace during The 2008 ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF), one of the largest annual tourism promotional events in Asia, hosted on a rotational basis among the member countries of ASEAN. The event was solemnized between January 18 and 26, 2008 at IMPACT Center, Bangkok, Thailand by The Green Hotel Recognition Committee.

The Committee selected several hotels from each country based on the following criteria and requirements: Environmental policy and actions for hotel operation, use of green products, collaboration with the community and local organizations, human resource development, solid waste management, energy efficiency, water efficiency, air quality management (indoor and outdoor), noise pollution control, waste water treatment and management, and toxic and chemical substance disposal management.

The Palace is a member of Heritage Friendly Business Association, one of the most prestigious campaigns of Heritage Watch.
